Seriously though, what do you take? You could go overboard and take everything including the kitchen sink, but then you’d need a lorry, and I can’t afford a UniMog (as much as I would like to be able to…)
So, I’ve taken to trying to guess, and this is the list I’ve come up with:
Vehicle
- Jack
- Spare tyre
- Spare bulbs
- 4WD
- Car – cheap, big enough for 2 people plus all gear, reliable – not like they tend to be mutually exclusive…
General
- Water storage containers, 2 or more, 25L plus each
- Jerry cans for additional fuel carriage
- Inverter for 220v power requirements
- Multi port USB charger
- Camera equipment with chargers and SD cards
- Crappy laptop for mapping (possibly) and also copying/backup of media, also editing if possible
- Modified Quadcopter to see if any cool aerial shots could be captured
- Walkie talkies
- Backup phone to use with local SIM card for cheap comms
- Chargers and various bits for electrical items
- Torches
- Head torches
- Tyre pump
- Tyre repair foam
- Basic toolkit, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers
- Knives/machete/multitools
Medical/health
- Decent medical kit
- Drugs various
- Sunscreen
- Rehydration sachets
- Plasters, bandages, antiseptic
- Bite relief
- Water purification tablets
Accommodation/camping
- 2/3 man tent
- Sleeping bags
- Sleeping bag liners
- Pillow
- Inflatable mat
- Cooker/stove
- Gas/fuel for stove
- Utensils/containers
- Fire starting equipment
Consumables
- Drinks
- Food
- Beer
- Treats
I’m sure I will have missed something, but hopefully it won’t be anything fatal…
