Equipment, or “What the hell do you take when you drive in a desert?”

Seriously though, what do you take?  You could go overboard and take everything including the kitchen sink, but then you’d need a lorry, and I can’t afford a UniMog (as much as I would like to be able to…)

So, I’ve taken to trying to guess, and this is the list I’ve come up with:

Vehicle

  • Jack
  • Spare tyre
  • Spare bulbs
  • 4WD
  • Car – cheap, big enough for 2 people plus all gear, reliable – not like they tend to be mutually exclusive…

General

  • Water storage containers, 2 or more, 25L plus each
  • Jerry cans for additional fuel carriage
  • Inverter for 220v power requirements
  • Multi port USB charger
  • Camera equipment with chargers and SD cards
  • Crappy laptop for mapping (possibly) and also copying/backup of media, also editing if possible
  • Modified Quadcopter to see if any cool aerial shots could be captured
  • Walkie talkies
  • Backup phone to use with local SIM card for cheap comms
  • Chargers and various bits for electrical items
  • Torches
  • Head torches
  • Tyre pump
  • Tyre repair foam
  • Basic toolkit, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers
  • Knives/machete/multitools

Medical/health

  • Decent medical kit
  • Drugs various
  • Sunscreen
  • Rehydration sachets
  • Plasters, bandages, antiseptic
  • Bite relief
  • Water purification tablets

Accommodation/camping

  • 2/3 man tent
  • Sleeping bags
  • Sleeping bag liners
  • Pillow
  • Inflatable mat
  • Cooker/stove
  • Gas/fuel for stove
  • Utensils/containers
  • Fire starting equipment

Consumables

  • Drinks
  • Food
  • Beer
  • Treats

I’m sure I will have missed something, but hopefully it won’t be anything fatal…
