Dakar Challenge – Agadir to Tan-Tan via Sidi Ifni

We began our day with an early start as we considered Agadir as the last good spot to stock up on various things we thought we’d need for the trip south into the desert, as such we all convoyed our way into the centre of town searching for a supermarket and found a massive Marjane with a multistory car park on top of it.

The plan was to spend an hour shopping max but it seems like managing crazy rally types is akin to herding cats, so it took just over 2 hours for everyone to get their bits and pieces.  I did buy another holdall (necessary to bring back all the tools I didn’t want to leave in Mauritania) and a football, which came in handy later on.

So, it was about midday before we hit the N1 south and began to make good time, however when we hit Tiznit the Espace developed a mechanical problem and we split the group.  We headed off along the coast road R104 with the Micra and the Peugeot for some decent scenery.

It’s quite a fun road and especially when it was raining quite hard – the roads through Mirleft and Legzira to Sidi Ifni were pretty and spectacular.  We stopped on a clifftop in Sidi Ifni and had lunch.

We also seemingly managed to adopt a dog and Kostas went off for some offroading down to the beach.

Here we can see Matts mutant hand – that’s what you get when you wave while doing panoramic photos…

We had arranged to meet up with the others in Guelmim, the mechanical issue being sorted out so we swung onto the N12 which turned out to be another fun road.  Fun in the sense that parts of it had cliffs collapsed onto it, but nothing quite blocking both lanes…

After much searching, we rendezvoused with everyone else and headed south again.

We met up at a hotel attached to a petrol station (can’t remember the name for the life of me) grabbed some rooms and went for a wander around town in search of food.  We managed to find something pretty decent (they do love their chicken) and then hit the sack.

Notes

  • It’s a nice road, but once you go off the main route, it’s a bit iffy
  • Sidi Ifni could be a nice seaside town
