Dakar Challenge – Mauritanian Visas

So, in order to get into Mauritania we have to get a visa, apparently until 2013 tourist visas could be issued at the border or at the one international airport on the country (nouakchott) but since then you have to apply for it in advance.

I’m in the UK and in London so I’m obviously going to be looking at details for getting a visa from here.

I gave the mauritanian embassy a call  (http://www.mauritanianembassy.org.uk/index.php) and it seems that you have to have the following

Valid UK Passport

Letter from my employer – not sure what this is for but I’d guess some sort of proof that you are legit

Visa Application Form – http://www.mauritanianembassy.org.uk/files/visa_application_form.pdf

Proof of exit details, in my case it would be confirmed flight details for the flight out of Nouakchott

£83 – not the worlds smallest fee

Passport photo with your signature on the back

Once you’ve got all those you can head to the embassy near Victoria between 10 and 12 and hand it all in, then you can come back a couple of days later and all good….

That’s the theory anyway!

Update: As it turns out, you actually don’t need to worry about all this – your friendly neighbourhood fixer Idoumou who meets you at the mauritanian border will take care of all this there and then.
